Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

I previously posted a recipe for Homemade Laundry Detergent, which I absolutely love!  I will never go back to using regular store bought detergent again.  It's been 5 months now and I still have detergent left.  But onto this post...another homemade detergent.  I've noticed my glasses getting cloudy after washing for a while in the dishwasher.  I use the Jet Dry in the rinse dispenser, but it still doesn't get my glasses sparkling clean.  So after researching the internet, I came across this recipe for making dishwasher detergent.

Ingredients:

2 Parts Borax
2 Parts Washing Soda
1 Part Citric Acid (2 Parts if you have hard water)
1 Part Kosher Salt
White Vinegar as a rinse aid (optional)

Directions:

Mix all together in a bowl.  I have very hard so I used 2 parts of the citric acid.  Walmart carries Lemi Shine, which is found in the liquid soap aisle.  If you can't find it, use 2 packets of Kool-Aid unsweetened Lemonade.

Pour into your favorite container and add either a silicon packet or some rice tied in cheesecloth so it will absorb the moisture.  If you do not do this, the powder will harden and make it difficult to get out.  I labeled my jar with the Martha Stewart chalkboard labels, but you can use anything you would like.

Use:

Add 1 Tbs to the detergent chamber of your dishwasher.  To use the vinegar as a rinse aid, pour a Tbs or two into a measuring bowl or custard dish on the top rack.  Do not put it in the rinse aid dispenser as it will ruin the rubber gasket.

FREEBIE!!!!

As a bonus, I have created a label to use on the jar and some tags if you would like to gift some of the detergent to friends and family. To save the files click on them once and then right click to save.  Enjoy :)
